CHAIRPERSON'S MESSAGE

CA. Sthanumurthy Viswanathan Meera

Chairperson,
Bahrain chapter of ICAI

Since the inception of the Bahrain chapter in 1985, our Past Chairpersons and executive committees have ensured that the Bahrain Chapter of ICAI is an active, vibrant and well recongnised overseas chapter, by keeping the ICAI Flag held high at all times. The new executive committee of BCICAI is ready to begin our adventurous journey of leading the chapter with a profound sense of honour and gratitude.

Our committee's theme for the term 2023-24 is “संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं”....

संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं (saṃgacchadhwaṃ saṃvadadhwaṃ)

Established over two decades ago, Bahrain Chapter of ICAI (BCICAI) is the largest body of professionals in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

BCICAI provides a forum for the members of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to develop professionally and personally. With members spread globally, ICAI is the second largest accounting body in the world.

Since its inception in 1998, BCICAI has provided an excellent platform for its members to acquire and disseminate knowledge. BCICAI encourages and facilitates its members to contribute to the economic development of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

It gives me immense pleasure in announcing our committee's theme for the term 2023-24 – “संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं“

संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं
सं वो मनांसि जानताम्
देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे
सञ्जानाना उपासते ||
समानो मन्त्र: समिति: समानी
समानं मन: सहचित्तमेषाम्
समानं मन्त्रमभिमन्त्रये व:

समानमस्तु वो मनो यथा व: सुसहासति ||

The theme "saṃgacchadhwaṃ saṃvadadhwaṃ" is taken from the ancient Indian text the Rig Veda Book 10. Section 191, and it translates to "May you move in harmony” i.e. another way of stating “unity in diversity" and represents an ideal that we should strive to uphold in all our interactions.

At its core, "saṃgacchadhwaṃ saṃvadadhwaṃ" suggests that despite our differences - whether they be cultural, religious, linguistic, or otherwise - we are all connected by our shared humanity. It acknowledges that each individual brings their unique perspective and experiences to the table, and that by embracing and celebrating these variations, we can foster a richer and more inclusive environment.

Firstly, it requires us to adopt a mindset shift. Instead of focusing on the ways in which we differ from others, we need to actively seek out and appreciate the diversity that exists around us.

Secondly, "saṃgacchadhwaṃ saṃvadadhwaṃ" calls upon us to recognize and respect the inherent worth and dignity of every individual.
The line, "देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे," means "As various parts of the body have different functions." Just as each part of our body serves a unique purpose, every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses. We must recognize and appreciate these differences, rather than trying to homogenize everyone into a single mold.

Thirdly, this concept encourages us to work collaboratively towards common goals. Rather than pursuing individual interests at the expense of others, we should aim to find common ground and work collectively towards achieving shared objectives. By pooling our resources, expertise, and creativity, we can often achieve far more than we could alone, and in doing so, build stronger relationships based on mutual trust and respect.

Fourthly, "saṃgacchadhwaṃ saṃvadadhwaṃ" reminds us of the interconnectedness of all living beings. Whether we realize it or not, our actions have consequences that extend far beyond our immediate selves. As such, we have a responsibility to consider the impact of our choices on the wider community and the natural world. By acting sustainably, ethically, and compassionately, we can contribute to the creation of a more harmonious and equitable society.

Lastly, this theme encourages us to cultivate a spirit of open-mindedness and adaptability. By remaining receptive to learning and growth, we can continue to evolve and develop both personally and collectively.

In conclusion, my dear friends, "saṃgacchadhwaṃ saṃvadadhwaṃ" offers us a powerful vision of a world where diversity is celebrated, respected, and leveraged for the greater good. By embracing this philosophy, we can create a more inclusive, collaborative, and sustainable society, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. Let us strive to uphold this ideal in our interactions with others, and work towards building a brighter, more harmonious future for all.
